Wedgewood has more permanent residents than any other area in Gulf Shores. Because of this, it is a community that appeals to all ages. If you are driving through this area and a child crosses the street, then take caution. There are likely a dozen more following behind.
Wedgewood has experienced steady residential growth since the 1980s, when people realized the benefit of its high elevation and central location. Buyers that want to be far from the tourist crowd but still live on the island make Wedgewood their first choice. Many of the City's administration offices and parks are found in this area, including the police and fire station, Bodenhamer Recreation Center, Ball Fields, Kids Park, and the South Baldwin Community Theater.
When heading South on Hwy 59, it is the first area you will come to after crossing the Gulf Shores Bridge. Wedgewood is centrally positioned between Ft. Morgan Road (Highway 180) to the South, the Intracoastal Canal to the North, and Highway 59 to the East.

So grab the fishing poles and head to the great fishing found in the reefs in Mobile Bay.
The children will be entertained for hours at the numerous parks located around the Bodenhamer Recreational Center. There is a playground area, skate park, and ball fields. The onsite pavilion provides a great venue for birthday parties, too. Just make sure to call ahead and reserve your date.
