This complex is one of the earliest additions to the Gulf Shores region and its developers had an eye toward creating a diverse set of real estate options. The 49-unit Ocean Reef, built in 1982, has nine buildings with two stories each that provide both fantastic views and limited views. Ocean Reef is made up of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units with the smaller condos facing the street. These one-bedroom units are 572 square feet and the two-bedroom units, staggered in the middle of the complex, are 900 square feet. The beach-front condos have three bedrooms, are two stories, and have 1,500 square feet of uniquely designed space. All condos in Ocean Reef have private balconies that face either the Gulf of Mexico (3-bedroom units), the pool in the courtyard area (two-bedroom units), or West Beach Boulevard (one-bedroom units). The complex has smallish kitchens with all the expected features, a community laundry facility, and Internet access.
Ocean Reef includes a pool in a manicured courtyard area located in the middle of five staggered buildings. The complex is on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, but does not have a boardwalk. Its main feature of Ocean Reef is its proximity to the downtown, which is about .3 miles away, making Ocean Reef a great location during festival times. There is a barbecue area, an onsite security office, and covered parking. To the east of Ocean Reef is Southern Shores Beach Resort and to the west are the Island Tower condos.
